Investigation from Brussels Airport: a fictional case study

Illustration of a traveller with a suitcase in an airport hall near the train connection

Fictional case study. The events described are not taken from an actual client file.

It was supposed to be a short business trip: a flight to Brussels, a few meetings and two nights in a hotel. Yet the partner at home had unanswered questions. Plans had changed, and explanations about the stay did not agree.

The client contacted JOCO Investigations from abroad with a specific question: did the trip unfold as it had been described at home? After reviewing the request, the scope, investigation periods and costs were agreed in writing.

The arrival at Brussels Airport

The flight lands at Brussels Airport in the afternoon. A little later, the traveller appears in the arrivals hall with a small suitcase and a shoulder bag. He checks his phone and heads towards the station beneath the airport.

He takes public transport to Brussels. As part of the agreed assignment, his journey into the city is followed. From the station, he continues to a hotel, arriving in the late afternoon.

So far, nothing appears inconsistent with an ordinary business trip.

An evening meeting

Later that evening, the traveller appears at the hotel entrance again. This time, he has no luggage. He waits, looking along the street several times.

Then someone approaches. They greet each other with an embrace and walk together to a nearby restaurant.

The client had not known about this meeting. However, a greeting or dinner together does not, by itself, establish the nature of a relationship. The investigator records what can be observed without drawing an unsupported conclusion.

After dinner, the two walk back. At the hotel, they do not say goodbye. They go inside together.

The night and the following morning

No departure by the visitor is observed during the remaining observation period. This is relevant, but it does not prove that the person stays at the hotel all night. Observation is limited; what happens inside is not visible.

The next morning, the investigation resumes at the agreed time.

Shortly after nine, the traveller and the same person leave the hotel together. They walk to a nearby breakfast place. Later, they say goodbye and leave separately.

The evening return and the joint departure the following morning are included in the report. The investigator cannot establish whether they shared a room or what happened behind closed doors.

Answers for the client

The client receives a chronological report covering the arrival at Brussels Airport, the journey by public transport, the hotel arrival, the evening meeting and the observations the next morning.

The report also records the break in observation and the limits of the findings. It does not present infidelity as proven. It does document a meeting and a sequence of events of which the client had been unaware.

This gives the client concrete information for a conversation and for subsequent decisions.
